first 第一、second第二、third第三、fourth第四、fifth第五、sixth第六、seventh第七、eighth第八、ninth第九、tenth第十、eleventh第十一、twelfth第十二、thirteenth第十三、fourteenth第十四、twentieth第二十、thirtieth第三十。
这种第几的排序表达方式有时候就用在日期的上面，写一个阿拉伯数字，右上方再写一个英语第几的最后两个字母。读法如上图，其实只有1~3数字排序的最后两个字母是有变化的，而4以后都是th结尾，所以只要记住first 第一→末尾分别是st、second第二→nd、third第三→rd，而4以后都只要写th即可。

在英语中上面括弧中的and一般不能省略;而在美国英语中却往往省去。请分析下面的对话:

英语中一千以上数字的表达方法是以三位数为单元，从高到低billion，million，thousand而依次读出的。因此我们在听时，可以三位数三位数地记录。试比较下面的对话:

B:One billion four hundred thirty'two million two hundred sixty'six thousand and forty three.

3英美在数字方面的不同表达方式
全部用数字表达日期时，英美也有差别。
如:1998年5月6日按照英国式应写成6/5/98，而按照美国式应写成5/6/98;是英国式的1998年8月1日，按照美国的表达方式却是1998年1月8日，美国的1998年8月1日应写成08，01，1998。因此，全部使用数字来表示日期时，往往发生误解，在商务活动中必须谨慎使用。
表达百万以上的数字概念英美的差别甚大，如one billion英语指的是"万亿""兆"，而美语则只"十亿";one trillion英语相当于million million million=1018,是百万兆，在美语里却相当于英国英语的one billion，是"万亿"、"兆"。
在数字口头表达方面，两国也存在着差别。$175(175美元)英语读成a(one) hundred and seventy five dollars，美语读成one hundred seventy five dollars，常省略and;表达连续同样数字的号码时，英语习惯用double或triple，美语一般不这样用，如电话号码，英语读成 three two zero, double one two，美语则读成three two zero one one two, 999 234英语读成nine double nine (triple nine) two three four，美语则读成nine nine nine two three four，不过美国人也把连续三个相同的号码读成three 加上这个数字的复数形式，如999读成three nines.
4英语数字的书写攻略
英美等国的出版社在排版时遵循一条原则，即1至10用单词表示，10以上的数目用阿拉伯数字(也有的以100为界限)，这条原则值得我们借鉴。

在科技文章中，数字频繁出现，用阿拉伯数字比用单词陈述更有利。

句首不用阿拉伯数字，句末要尽量避免用阿拉伯数字。
